Third Morning

I wonder if Kat is tired of my endless opinionated analysis and equally endless Stark-related squeeing yet. *g*

I say opinionated because yesterday, I once again found myself feeling rather miffed when, during Anthony Simcoe's hour, a D'Argo death denier received loud cheers from the gallery. Now I feel like a heretic believing that D'Argo is pushing up daisies and, furthermore, preferring that he remain that way. The whole point was that Crichton had to lose someone he really cared about. I love D'Argo too, but I don't want the magnitude of that sacrifice cheapened by wish fulfillment. [/rant]

Ranting aside, there was also much giggling last night between me and florastuart. And we weren't even drunk, I swear. simplystars was convinced we were plotting to write kinky porn or something. *g* But we actually decided to suggest Moya/Giant Space Squid (an idea that emerged during dinner on Friday) to astrogirl2 instead, because she'll write anything. She's a fic Mikey. *g*

Comments

Moya tentacle porn? Man, you Centauri fans and your tentacles...
Well, you've got to admit tentacles just open more possibilities...
Is that what they're calling them in polite society these days?
No, just in decadent European society which gets off on synonyms.*g*
Pah! Overly-delicate euphemism, in my book. Why start using them fancy words like "synonym", when you just mean "tentacle"?
she'll write anything. She's a fic Mikey. *g*

Hey!

Oh, god. It's true, isn't it. It's truuuue! *wails, hangs head*

*goes off to write Moya/Squid drabble*
Oh, and I agree with you about death scenes. I remember when -- WARNING TO PASSERBY: 3RD SEASON AND MINISERIES SPOILERS! -- Crais got killed off, and there was all kinds of speculation about how he might not really be dead, how it might be possible to bring him back. And, yeah, it's certainly possible possible, with a little creative thinking, to come up with a way he could have survived. But I was so, so glad that he never did come back, because he got the coolest death scene ever, and what do you do after that? Anything else is anticlimactic at best, and, yeah, just cheapens the sacrifice. D'Argo's death scene wasn't quite on the same level as Crais's, but IMHO it was very right and very fitting, and basically just perfect. I'm sad about D'Argo's death. I'm sad at the thought that he won't be in any future Farscape that might happen, and I'm sad at the thought of all the things he'll never get to do. Aww, it's makin' me sniffly just thinking about it. But, y'know, it's good that I'm sad. It's called "emotional impact," and it doesn't happen when you're just sitting there thinking "Ah, they'll just bring him back in a few episodes." (Well, OK, it doesn't usually happen. I'll admit, the ending of The Wrath of Khan still gets to me every time. Ahem. :)) But, y'know, when you're dealing with a fictional character in a universe where death isn't necessarily always permanent, it's easy to get stuck in the denial stage of grief...
What's a Mikey? What am I missing here? [feeling obscurely left out]
I think you're left out 'cause you're not an American. The reference is to an old TV commercial, one of those things that, for some unfathomable reason, just sticks in the popular consciousness. It features some kids looking at a bowl of unfamiliar cereal about which they're very dubious. "You eat it. No, you eat it! I'm not gonna eat it!" Eventually, they pass it down to Mikey, the little kid at the end of the table, and one of 'em says, "He won't eat it. He hates everything." But Mikey takes a taste and, whaddaya know, "He likes it! Hey, Mikey!" God, that's taking up brain space I could be using for other things... Anyway, apparently I am the person to whom people pass the fic assignments that nobody wants. And I eat them. :)
Still waiting for my Dayna/Travis, BTW, Mikey. :)
I don't think it's gonna happen. :)
Ah! Thanks! And it seemsm to fit. [grin]

Hee! Assuming that I'm the Kat you mean, I can assure you that I will *never* get tired of opinionated analysis and any sort of Farscape-related squeeing. ;) Especially when the opinionated analysis is as well-informed as yours is. (*And* when there's hope that the Stark squeeing will mean that there'll be John-Stark friendship fic soon. *looks hopeful* )

Well, if you're a heretic, then so am I. Bringing characters back to life too easily after killing them and thus devaluing their deaths is one of my biggest pet peeves about genre shows. (Was it really necessary to kill and then resurrect Scorpius quite so many times, for example?) And if D'Argo ever is brought back in Farscape canon in anything other than flashbacks (which I seriously doubt), I'll probably be as mad about it as you would be.

But... the thing is, I can't imagine Farscape fic without D'Argo. I just can't. And damnit, if John and Aeryn could be brought back so easily after D'Argo grieved for them the way he did at the end of Bad Timing, a *few* D'Argo good denial fics should be allowed, don't you think?

Anyway, I'll have to write more about this when I get more rest and am more coherent. I just wanted to say that it was great to meet you this weekend! And I'm really glad you made it home safely. I've got to go crash now. I probably shouldn't have stayed up so late yesterday. ;)
(*And* when there's hope that the Stark squeeing will mean that there'll be John-Stark friendship fic soon. *looks hopeful* )

Yes. Yes, there will be. And meta as well. *g*

And damnit, if John and Aeryn could be brought back so easily after D'Argo grieved for them the way he did at the end of Bad Timing, a *few* D'Argo good denial fics should be allowed, don't you think?

Well, yes, anything that's good is allowed. Plus, there are still four years of canon to play with- missing scenes, AU's, etc. Naturally, D'Argo will continue to live on in fic. I only mean to say that I believe his canon is over.
