The Observations of soulonds9, New Stargate SG-1 Viewer: Part I

"Jeez! What is it with Daniel walking right into dangerous situations? It's like: 'Okay, Daniel, let's get out of here.' 'No, wait, I have to study it!'"

My little brother is nearly finished with the first season of Stargate SG-1, and the above was his choice observation of this evening. I, naturally, laughed out loud.

I'm not a dyed-in-the-wool SG1 fan. I enjoy it, certainly- particularly the earlier seasons. Possibly the show's biggest strength is the overwhelming likability (and, yes, as andrastewhite recently discovered, also the sex appeal- mmm, Daniel especially is sex on a stick *g*) of the main characters, and the writers are more adept, I think, at coaxing natural humor from the team in the earlier seasons than in the later. But I wouldn't call myself a true member of its fandom. I am, however, familiar enough with SG-1 fandom to know that soulonds9's observation is far from new. ;)

Meanwhile, I have now met Chiana. Those Nebari are charming little totalitarians, aren't they? Ripped right out of A Clockwork Orange, me thinks. But now that I'm starting to get acquainted with our tricky, nubile, bendy young friend, I am beginning to see some glimmers of ideas for the MULTIVERSE FICATHON OF DOOM! Oh, yes. *eg*

Comments

About four episodes of Star Gate are all I've watched, but while they were entertaining, it didn't grip me. (Can't see the Daniel factor, either, but I'm probably the only girl on the planet who can't, judging by lj.*g*)

And yes, the Nebari are. (A second season is called A Clockwork Nebari.) Chiana, eh? Here to stay, and one of Farscape's most popular characters. Would comment further but am forbidden by ficathon secrecy.** Also, that episode, Durka's Return, offers an important bit of backstory for Rygel - he's not just comic relief.
Nah, you're not the only one - my first reaction to this post was: "Daniel, sexy? Huh?!" ;)

*on and off watcher of Stargate, but not a fan either*
p.s.: But a couple of weeks ago I caught a Stargate episode with Peter Wingfield - now *he* is what I'd call sexy! *L* Actually even worth a classic "Mmmm... Methos..." post ;)

*off to check*

Hey, according to IMDB there's a new Highlander movie coming up!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0299981/
The sexiness of Methos is beyond debate.*g* Interesting about the movie - I hadn't heard anything so far!

Also: I'm relieved not to be the only woman who can't see the Daniel appeal...
I don't find myself in the majority in a fandom very often. Actually, in my life as a fangirl, this has only occurred twice. Daniel is one instance. The other is Gary Hobson from Early Edition. And EE is a teeny, cute little fandom where everybody pretty much likes all the characters. *pets EE*

The rest of the time... well, the rest of the time, I'm squeeing over tentacle pr0n and wishing little Vir would get some hot lovin'... or I'm fiercly defending a priggish, socially awkward, middle-aged vice principal... or... etc. You get the picture. *g*
The sexiness of Methos is beyond debate.*g*

Absolutely! I'll admit that I squealed (umm, quietly ;)) when I saw X-Men 2 for the first time and realized that no-one but Peter Wingfield was playing Stryker's assistant *G*

As for that movie - from the comments at IMDB I gathered that the projects seems to have been "in pre-production" for a while now. No idea if that means that it's never going to happen...
SG1 isn't one of my top three (Blake's 7, Babylon 5, Farscape) but I enjoy it a lot too. I was very doubtful about it at first because I wasn't impressed with the original film, but the dry humour and, as you say, sheer likeability of the characters drew me in. I love Jack's turn of phrase and his attitude.

My favourite ep is the first one I watched, forced by a friend who got an instant convert who then had to catch up with all the ones she missed. I'm hopeless with titles; It was the one where they kept looping in time and Jack and Teal'c were the only ones who realised it.

My favourite scene is where they swap bodies (an idea also done in Farscape and which I shamelessly stole for a B7 fic) and those two arrive back looking pissed off. Someone asks if the mission went well. "It did not," Jack says solemnly. Teal'c looks at him incredulously. "Ya think?" Damn, I love that.
Oh. My. God. Window of Opportunity (the time loop episode) is the Funniest. Episode. Ever. Jack riding a bicycle through the SGC! Teal'c getting revenge on the guy who keeps slamming the door in his face! Teal'c learning how to juggle! Jack getting sick of Fruit Loops! Hee hee HEE!

And yes, the body swap episode is also a riot. *g*

Now you've put me in the mood for some good comic Jack&Teal'c buddy fic...
Cool! If you're writing any, let me know when it's up.

Yeah, I watched that time-loop ep about 3 times. It's superb. The body-swap one was so well-done, you were never in any doubt of who was where. The Farscape version was rather more confusing and they had to wear ID tags in the end.
You know how much fun you (and other people) had watching me watch B5 for the first time? Now I get to watch you watch Farscape *g*. And it's funny you should say that, since there's an episode in Season Two called A Clockwork Nebari.

And yay for ideas for the Ficathon Of Doom!
I was a little worried for awhile that I wouldn't be able to come up with anything. But now I'm beginning to see how one of my assigned pairings might work. *g*

The nice thing about Chi is, she's a gigantic slut (and I mean that in the nicest possible way.) I dare say you can find some way to get her into bed with most people *g*.

If you need a FS knowledgeable beta when you're done, btw, I'm sure Sabine and I would both be willing to help out.

Hee. Yes, I noticed that right away. This story will likely turn out to be the smuttiest thing I've ever written. *g* (Which, I admit, is not saying much, considering how lily pure most of my stories have been. *g*)

And thank you for your offer to beta. I will probably take you up on it.

Chiana has that effect on people, I think *g*.

It's the least I can do after sticking you with that assignment in the first place.
