B7: I've now finished the second series...

... but my VCR won't play my third series tapes! OMG, what happens when he pushes the button?! I won't know until I get the DVD's shipped from Britain. Wah!

This just demonstrates that I've been spoiled by the instant gratification that comes with watching my shows on DVD.

So, tell us your thought in S2. :-)
Is there anything in particular you wish to know? I work really well with the interview format. *g*
OK. :-)
  1. Do you still love Vila?
  2. Who's your favourite?
  3. Have you changed your mind about any characters as they developed?
  4. Do you have a favourite ep?
  5. Least favourite ep?
  6. What did you think about Gan's death?
  7. Have you considered writing for B7 yet?
Do you still love Vila?

Of course I do. *g* In general, I only felt so-so about The Keeper, but Vila makes an adorable fool.

Who's your favourite?

See above. Though if my interpretation is correct and Servalan herself has arranged an alien invasion to justify a military take-over of the Federation government, she is a big bad I must respect beyond her obvious sartorial genius. *g* Then again, she seemed to be genuinely ignorant of the location of Star One. So either I'm wrong and Travis was working alone, or Servalan is a very good actress. Or she ordered Travis not to tell her in the interest of plausible deniability. Hmm. In any case, she's forcing me to sit here and try to work out her angle, and that's the mark of a good character.

Have you changed your mind about any characters as they developed?

No, not really. Characters I enjoyed in the beginning (Vila, Avon, Blake, Cally, Servalan) are still characters I tend to enjoy now.

Do you have a favourite ep?

So far? Star One, hands down. Though I think the episode might've benefitted from a little more exploration of the moral ambiguity of their intended sabotage (Eeeevil empires tend to be filled with a lot of innocent people, you know, and while taking down such empires may be morally justified in some situations, that kind of war can not, in fact, be clean. Ever. The universe isn't built that way.) the fact that it was mentioned at all is a point in the episode's favor. I think I might start sacrificing chickens to Chris Boucher.

Least favourite ep?

While the costumes, which seemed to going for "absurdist French cabaret," were lovely, lovely eye candy- and while the concept of Avon and Vila going off on their own little criminal adventure is appealing- Gambit dragged for me. Perhaps I was tired that day.

What did you think about Gan's death?

If there are many more like that, Blake will be in trouble. Not that everyone is perfectly loyal now, but...

Have you considered writing for B7 yet?

I have a feeling this will disappoint you, but no. I see angles that could and should be explored, but I'm going to hold back for now until I've seen the complete canon.

  1. Yay! He's utterly adorable even when he's being very naughty as in 'Shadow'. He looked so sweet, young, and innocent in that, though I cheered Cally when she asked for the tooth necklace.

  2. Hmm, interesting speculation! None of that gets explained so your deductions are as good as any. :-)

  3. I'll be interested to see if that changes. I enjoyed Servalan too up till season 4 when she really outstayed her welcome. You'll see what I mean when you get there.

  4. Oh, yes. I don't agree with Blake's original decision to take out Star One at all, but others do. There have been a lot of impassioned arguments about that, and that's only in the four or so years I've been in the fandom. :-P

  5. Oh, I love 'Gambit'! Apart from the two naughty boys playing truant, it has great OCs and it gives us another side to Travis. I think 'Voice From the Past' was the worst ep; such a crap plot.

  6. Yes, I do blame Gan's death on Blake. He should have pulled out at several points: when the beacon wasn't on, when Kasabi didn't show, when Veron turned on them. He promised he would and didn't; at this point his obsession is taking over and he's no longer the man who refused to kill Travis in 'Duel'.

  7. Fair enough! B7 was meant to end with S3 (and I wish it did; it jumped the shark) and I've read at least one story that was turned AU by S4. I look forward to your fiction when you do write. :-)

Yes, selenak mentioned something about The Great Star One DebateTM some time ago. I'm hoping she'll point me to the good bits once she gets back from Frankfurt so I can see what's out there and then add in if I end up feeling compelled to do so. *g*

The Blake side of Voice did feel silly to me, but introducing highly placed dissenters was a plot that had possibilities.

As I said, I don't believe I was feeling well the day I watched Gambit, so that probably played a role. We'll see what happens when I go back for the second viewing. ;)
