I think I just broke my brain.

Fandom has a hate-on for Stark? I. Don't. Understand.

Typically, when I find a character I really like, I spend a period of time looking for all the fic and meta I can about them. So it is with Stark. And, you know, variety is the spice of fandom and all that, but some of the meta I've found really makes me wonder whether I'm watching the same show. Does fandom have no soul?

*sigh* Well, it's not like this is the first time I've been in the minority. tresjolie9, you remember my position in Boston Public fandom, yes?

On the other hand, I've been skimming b7_rpg despite not understanding most of it and despite the fact that I'm probably spoiling myself by doing it. (Then again, I'm already spoiled for the ultimate outcome, so...) astrogirl2, your Stark is spot on. Really, all of you are such a great team- your OOC comments especially are often fall-on-the-floor funny. Why can't we have funny OOC-ness in the B5 team, huh?

But.. but... Stark is *cool*!
He so is! I mean, for Great Maker's sake, think of the fic possibilities inherent in who he is. 15,000 dead voices equals 15,000 potential stories.

Plus- and this is the psychology major in me speaking now- the mental illness- the multiplicity of his urges- is fascinating and heart breaking. It's perfectly clear to me, for example, where the Aeryn thing comes from- that he doesn't intend to be creepy even though it comes off that way. In the trauma that constituted his life as a slave first and a prisoner next, he was almost certainly never socialized adequately. Couple that with all the dead leaking through the desperate, fragile barriers in his brain and... well there you are. I also like astrogirl2's explanation- that he senses Zhaan in her. That makes profound sense to me.
It makes perfect sense to me, but it feels a little unsatisfying. Still, I guess that's the nature of irrational obsession, really. :)

Damn, I should find out how the VCR here works (don't ask, major high-tech setup), and watch Farscape S2.
Shouldn't that be S3? That's where most of the Stark material is. *g*
But I haven't seen S2 yet, and haven't even received S3 yet. :)
Aaah. Then by all means, watch S2 first. *g*
There, there. I don't get the Stark dislike either, but then again I love characters like Anakin Skywalker, and my favourite Farscape character is Rygel.*g*

And yes, Astrogirl`s Stark is fab. And you know, we'd have funny OOC commentary if Sabine made it back online again.*veg*

Heh, Rygel. I wasn't all that interested in him at first, but the short guy's grown on me.

Take me, you hot hunk of Narn!

Er, sorry. *g* I've been feeling very silly of late. *g*
Take me, you hot hunk of Narn!

That's "take me in the hallway, you hot hunk of Narn!" ;)

I'm glad you guys like RPG-Stark. I'm not sure that I can even claim credit for his characterization, as mostly he just talks to me in my head and I write it down. :) I do think he's a bit different than the Stark we saw for a lot of the series, because he's got some good stabilizing influences now, and he doesn't freak out as easily. Which is a pity, in a way, because writing Stark freak-outs is fun. :)

*facepalm* But of course, you're right! Silly me. *g*

Heh. I love how we all claim we have no control over our muses. *g*

Oh, I bet it is. *g* As a matter of fact, if I end up being assigned Crazy!Stark for the Starkathon, I will probably squeal in delight rather than flee in terror. A chance to put my major to use!

Hmm. *makes note of this*
It'll be good to have Flora back in action, and Andraste, if possible, for meeting up with the Mumak. I'm going to post some little thing about intercepting transmissions, maybe, to give our guys a clue to another ship in the area.

Unless you want a scan to find us first.
Go ahead, if you like. I'm not sure what we're doing, but I'd definitely like to have as many of us as possible around when we're doing it. We can put up a post scanning for you guys on b7_rpg at some point, too.
That's "take me in the hallway, you hot hunk of Narn!" ;)

Too true, and the only appropriate response is: "Damn your sinister attraction, Mollari!" (Wall-throwing ensues.)

RPG Stark is adorable but mostly responsible for me not signing on to the Stark ficathon. I just don't think I could do him justice. I do have the mad idea of writing Sikozu-Stark from that Unrealized Reality one of these days, though...

*bangs head* Here I do everything I can to encourage people to write Stark, and they go and use me as an excuse not to! :)

That thought's crossed my mind, too, just because there's got to be an interesting network of relationships there. And because Sikozu-Stark is so darned cute, and every bit as tragic and cuddlable as the original. Don't know if I ever will. I'd love to see what you could do with her...
Actually, fandom seems to be a lot better-disposed towards Stark now than it did a few years ago when I first got into it. I remember desperately searching for Stark fics, and not being able to find more than I could count on my fingers. Not to mention getting into at least one rather heated debate with somebody who absolutely hated the character... an attitude that seemed to me to be the prevailing one.

I don't know if things have seemed to improve in the interim because I'm mostly interacting with people on LJ now, and LJ folks are better-disposed to him, or whether attitudes have just evolved a bit over time, or whether my own tireless campaigning for better understanding of the character has made a difference. :) But I certainly no longer feel like the world's only Defender of Stark, which is wonderful.

There do seem to be a lot of people out there, though, who just don't understand the character at all, or who really dislike him for one reason or another, or who have what seems to me to be a really wrong-headed interpretation of his actions. (Of course, I guess that's one of the things about Stark... We know so little of him that there's a lot of room for projection and interpretation, and whatever ideas you get into your head about him may seem supportable, although IMHO some of them are much more supportable than others.)
I think as fandoms grow older, attitudes do change. Until recently, there was a similar lack of Centauri/Narn fic in B5 fandom, which was completely strange to me. And in Boston Public fandom, I picked up a number of allies in my fight to explain Guber as time went on, until we had developed into a significant, distinct niche in the fandom. So I think as long as we stand up and speak on behalf of the misunderstood and maligned, there will be some influence. *g*

So where do I go to pick up my weaponry and armor and officially declare myself a Defender of Stark? *g*
*hands you armor and a sword* Congratulations, O Defender of Stark! Now, go out there and make me proud! :)
Yay!

*swings sword around rather wildly, narrowly missing you*

Whoops. Sorry. *g*
*grin* Yes, you're definitely one of us. :)
Well, I'm thinking one has to be a little mad oneself to understand him. *g*
Oh yes. I remember desperately combing the Internet for B5 spoilers and fanfic while waiting for traded tapes to come from the US - I live in Australia - and having to pick through mountains of Sheridan/Delenn to get a few nuggets of Londo-G'Kar-Vir.
Yeah, I've heard that a lot of people dislike Stark. I don't know why either.

And you're reading b7_rpg? I'm impressed. I hope you're not doing it from the archives though as the posts are sorted by local time which often puts them out of order. Using the 'next post' arrows does it right. Sorry if you already knew this, but it took me a while to find out.

You so have to watch B7. If you love Stark and Vir, you'll be a Vila fan too and we need more of those. :-)

Yes, I worked that out after a brief period of confusion. *g*

I'm working on it. ;)

Ahhh, my friend, you make me want to start up a LJ community for poor misused misunderstood side characters. ^_- If it makes you feel any better, that fellow in my icon *points, yes the rainbow hair guy* is either loved rabidly by the fans or hated rabidly by the fans. There seems to be no middle-ground in such cases.

It's been too long since I last caught an episode of 'Farscape'. Must track it down on DVD or something. 'Blakes 7' is out on DVD. :P (best spoiler ending ever...dude...they all die...*laughs*) I'd love to role play as Zen, the ship's computer. Zen rocks. :D

Yes, I remember your Boston Public position!

You were the one and only Guberphile around in BP fandom.

I certailny know what it can be like to pick up on smaller character!
