It isn't about the sex

The best thing about LM/G'K is that, between Londo's attributes, G'Kar's pouch, and both characters' middle-aged alien-ness, there's no danger of this pairing being written merely out of lust. (Not to begrudge anyone else their enjoyment of PWP, but that is just not my glass of brivari.) You're damn well forced to consider character because sex isn't really the issue. At least, I don't think anyone in our fandom is seriously turned on by the prospect of tentacle/pouch porn. :O

come on, tentacles and pouches are hot!*g*

No, seriously, you're right. Anyone writing L/G will probably find working out the, err, technicalities the hardest and least stimulating part of the fic, whereas the dialogue and character exploration should just flow.
I think this may, sadly, be the problem I have with writing the pairing. Not that I don't want to, or that I don't see it - but I tend to latch onto at least some ounce of UST to be the core of the pairing. And L/G'K has UST, I think. But I agree totally that it's so not about the sex. So how do you qualify UST without the S part?
I see it in competitive terms. selenak's marvelous Truth or Dare can be read, if you choose, as a set up for a slash situation, with a kiss occuring in the context of a contest.

Both Londo and G'Kar have dirty minds. We know, based on the scene in Rising Star, that Londo is certainly not above using his dirty mind to get a rise out of his nemesis/friend. And I doubt very much that G'Kar is above doing the reverse. *eg* I think it's entirely possible that things could get out of hand in the midst of a battle of oneupsmanship, with each one trying to leave the other speechless once and for all. "I did it to shut you up!" and that sort of thing.

And you don't even have to go into hardcore tentacle porn to convey the pairing. There was a rather lengthy discussion on this subject in andrastewhite's journal that ultimately proposed that Londo might not even consider a little noodling with a few tentacles true sex. Based on Vir's stumbling description of the stages of Centauri intercourse, using only one or two tentacles is not really considered terribly noteworthy by the Centauri. As andrastewhite pointed out, the fact that Londo would dispute that a little tentacle play with G'Kar is really sex could lead to a very amusing argument between them.

Also, in the same discussion, the parallels between the Centauri and Imperial Rome were brought up, which adds a whole new angle to the pairing, with homosexuality being considered by Londo to be an embarassingly juvenile activity.

I hope all of the above babble gives you some ideas. *g*

Well, that was why I left the comment in the first place. :)

I can very easily see Londo asserting that the Centauri ways of love are far to sophisticated and complex for G'Kar to manage them, and G'Kar taking this as a dare. Or G'Kar calling Londo unadventurous because he's never had sex with a member of another species.

In adition to their competativeness, I think you can get a lot out of their curiosity. Even very early on in the series there's a degree of mutual fascination there, and I gather that by Season Four and Five there's not a great deal they don't know about each other.

There are other ways I can think of to get them into bed, but I want there to be a few ideas left over by the time Season Five is released down here and I can actually write them myself ;).

Of course. ;)

Whoops, I messed up the link.

Try this one:

Truth or Dare

With the ammount of tentacle hentai in anime and manga, I guess there's someone out there who would find it hot, although personally I can't imagine why.

Actually, given how neurotic Earth marsupials are about keeping their pouches clean, I can just hear G'Kar lecturing Londo about Places You Don't Touch Male Narns ... and there, I think, is the reason I think there should be Londo/G'Kar slash in the first place. It's not that the mechanics of the sex are hot, it's that they're interesting from a socio-biological perspective. (And funny. It's very important not to forget that.)

It's not just the sexual biology and psychology that's interesting, either. Lately I seem to spend quite a lot of my time speculating about how Narns see colour and how their names are derived, or wondering why it is Centauri can't digest fast food *g*. And this is why aliens are often far more interesting than humans, slash, het or gen ...

Booyah!

If anyone hasnt read the tale 'Truth or Dare' I seriously advice you to do so that is a really wicked tale. I have to admit I was laughing so hard at the end.

As for G'Kar/Londo tales...well I'm so old fashioned it hurts LOL I prefer them with the opposite sex myself. Just because there is so much yaoi tales (did i call it by the right title?) out there its almost hard to find Het tales...But then again thats my preference *shrugs*

I'd cheerfully read hetfic involving either character. Or gen fic. Or any fic at all. It's just that there's almost none of it out there *g*.

That depends on the fandom, really. If you're talking about, stay, Smallville fanfic then yes, there's more slash than het. In many fandoms, though, slash stories still make up a tiny percentage of the fic.

Besides, no-one has slashed Londo and G'Kar at all, as far as I've found, so it's hardly an over-used idea ;).

(Oh, and 'yaoi' does indeed refer to m/m fanfiction, but it's a Japanese term related to anime and manga fandoms. Western fandoms tend to use slash instead.)

Haw!

The more we mull over these matters, the more wedded to this pairing I become. *g*
